Manchester, Mandeville- What would’ve been a fast-approaching campaign period for aspiring United Student Movement (USM) prospects, was quickly brought to a halt when the Director of Elections, Policies and Constitutional Affairs (EPOC) declared the applications reopened.
The reopening was declared on Friday, February 19 following the completion of the candidates’ vetting process, which is customarily done by the movements governing division, Northern Caribbean University (NCU), Student Services.
This process is normally done to ascertain if students meet the criteria for the positions being vied for prior to campaigning or being interviewed for the various offices.
The reality now stands, that offices are still yet to be filled inorder to avoid a now seemingly popular trend of automatic appointments.
EPOC Director, Donique Marriott urged students to be the change they want to see in the next regime by applying.
“In a time like this, when there is so much to complain about, let us not just be talkers, but let us be doers. Instead of using this as an opportunity to wait to see what the next regime will do or where they might fall short, I’m urging the students to apply for any of the 16 offices and put themselves in the position to effect the change they want to see in the movement, because the best way to get your desired result is to do it yourself.”
The new deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, Feburary 23 at 2:00 pm.
Applicants can send in the required documents via email to dmarriott12@stu.ncu.edu.jm.
