The United Student Movement has apologised for the breach of ethos during Aquaventure 3.0.
In the days following Aquaventure 3.0 held on Thursday, October 31, there has been many concerns surrounding instances of failure to comply with rules and regulations and guiding beliefs of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU).
On the night of Thursday,November 8, the USM issued a press release via NCU’s Weekender Magazine as a direct response to these concerns. The Movement said that Aquaventure 3.0 aims to provide students with a means of healthy relaxation from their studies and thus, adherence to the university’s ethos is required. “It aims to provide the NCU student a respite from study to ‘chill by the pool’ in a safe and wholesome environment. Aquaventure 3.0 is the balance of “the harmonious development of the physical, the mental and the spiritual powers” encouraged at NCU, and as such, adherence to the rules, regulations, and ethos of the institution is required.” The Movement said.
However, though efforts were made to ensure that the ethos was maintained, USM recognises the instances where protocols were violated. The Council said, “The committee which was in charge of planning the event and ensuring that the NCU ethos was maintained as it relates to attendees, music, dress and behaviour, found that despite its best efforts many of these protocols were breached, and as such, has brought the university’s standards into question and disrepute.
The United Student Movement also said that it continues to look forward to the support of the administration, faculty, staff and the student body, to ensure that as students we do not infringe on the legacy of the university, that has provided a safe, wholesome, Christian environment for our social and spiritual development.
The funds accumulated from Aquaventure 3.0 will go towards the provision of scholarships for NCU students.
