Mandeville, Jamaica- President of the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Philmelodia Club, Janae Walker says her regime is seeking to provide the university’s female dormitories with several sanitization products for the upcoming academic year.

Her statement comes amidst the looming virtual academic year, that will see selected students residing on the university’s female dorms, Leila Reid Hall and Jamaica Hall, under new COVID-19 protocols.

In an interview with the Hilltop Trumpet on August 17, 2020, Walker said her executive body stands ready to assist the females of both dorms amidst the new dormitory protocols issued by the university.

“The Philmelodia Executive body is currently looking on getting several sanitizers, disinfectants, and gloves to distribute to the ladies in the event that they are unable to purchase these items. We will also put sanitizing stations in place. We are also working on selling branded masks for the ladies,” Walker shared.

Jamaica Hall recently issued a document to students titled, “List of Items to be taken by new students” that included a list of sanitary products along with a COVID-19 protocol guide.

The Biological Sciences Major revealed that she has been in contact with returning students, noting that the majority of the ladies are ready to work with the new protocols that have been outlined, while others were dissatisfied.

“Inevitably a few folks were disgruntled at a few of the protocols but they have no choice but to comply. Some protocols may have to be added or altered to fit the dorm area but we will be implementing and adjusting going forward.”

She added that she believes the protocols that have been passed are feasible once dorm residents are willing to observe the protocols, noting that the admin will have to direct students on where to do temperature checks and preliminary screening before entering the dorm.

The United States national succeeded Donae Hill, as President of the social club. The Club’s inception is geared towards uniting the residents of both Halls while facilitating a safe and holistic environment.
