Mandeville Manchester- Students of the Northern Caribbean University(NCU) are convinced that the 2019-2020 United Student Movement(USM) regime after four months is operating as a one-man government and not as a team.
“Before their induction, I pictured USM as a body working together cohesively, but now I can
only picture the president” said second year Communication Studies Major, Andae-Andyliesha
Ricketts. Ricketts added “I need to see more work done in terms of improving the lives
of students and for them(USM) to calm down on the ‘flop’ and the same recurring entertainment
events.”
Students are left to think that the regime is not doing enough to properly engage the student
population. If the administration is actually working on their plans and projections, people are
not seeing any change because of how quiet and disengaging executives are to the mass.
One student referenced, “USM President, Kavion Allen inaugural speech, which said
‘this administration is the People’s Government and everything that will be done is geared
towards your development, advancement and well-being’ as such we want to see more of their governing body and not just the President.
According to some residents of Jamaica Hall,”we are left to think that the executives are not working as a
team because we are rarely in contact with them if it is not a planned program.” Students told
the HillTop Trumpet that the President visited the dorms recently, toured and took notes of the
problems. He also gave residents the opportunity to come out of their rooms and share their
concerns.
The United Student Movement of the 2019-2020 Regime is the centennial regime that
planned to “Equip, Engage and Empower” students but the student population have not seen
any of the E’s.
