NCU FFC Falls to Shortwood College
A valiant NCU Female team lost their opening match to Shortwood College on Thursday, October 11 at 4 PM at the NCU Oval (Northern Caribbean University football field).
Spectators gathered to watch the action as the girls took to the field for the first time this season. Shortwood struck in the 27th minute putting the hosts under early pressure.
Shortwood females controlled the majority of the first half with constant aggressive and attacking plays; forcing NCU’s goalkeeper Jossent Mckyie to save a number of shots attempted by the visitors.
The Mandeville side looked more focused in the second half due to some substitutions and playing style adjustments made by their coach but they were unable to trouble the scoring sheet as the match ended 1-0.
NCU’s Coach Fabian Summerville praised the team’s effort despite the final score. He said even though the team had a short time to prepare for the season, there were noticeable improvements defensively – in comparison to last year’s play.
Summerville, also noted that there is much more that can be done on the offensive side of the ball. He also noticed the lack of confidence and aggressiveness by his players but remains optimistic and continues to anticipate improvement and good ball play whether the team wins or loses.
NCU Girls football club will travel to Kingston on Thursday, November 18to play The University of Technology Jamaica (UTECH).
