MBCC defeats NCU 2-1

Players of the Montego Bay College (red) celebrate their second goal.
Spectators packed the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) football field otherwise known as the NCU Oval on Thursday 4, 2018 to witness the first matchup of the 2018 intercollegiate football tournament between NCU FC and Montego Bay Community College (MBCC).
In a tough game of football, the boys from the Mandeville based institution failed to come out victorious over their visitors from Montego Bay.
It only took 45 seconds for Tray Johnson to open the scoring for MBCC after catching NCU’s defence off-guard.
The early lead put NCU under serious pressure as they desperately tried to create scoring opportunities. However, despite their efforts, the first half ended with a score 1-0 in favour of MBCC FC.
One livid NCU supporter said, “NCU hasn’t taken a shot on target”.
A more attacking attitude was evident in the NCU players as the second half commenced. A Near goal free kick attempt in the 55th minute by Markino Ferron, lifted the spirits of the NCU supporters. However, a thunder strike from Roshane Campbell in the 62nd minute extended the visitors lead to 2-0 and dampened the hopes of the Mandeville supporters.
Ivanhoe Smith converted from the penalty spot in the 79th minute to give the home team some motivation but all was lost when the referee blew the final whistle just some moments later.
The game ended 2-1.
NCU FC looks to put this loss behind them as they prepare to face Mico Community College next Thursday.
