Letter of the Day| What value is placed on NCU students’ health if the Fitness Center is closed?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The pandemic has caused a lot of facilities on campus to be closed. They were forced to close because of the COVID-19 policies given by our country’s leaders. Though it is important for us to observe these policies, it is also important for us not to allow these policies to take away facilities that are important to our health. One of such facilities is our Fitness Centre.

The Fitness Centre has been closed since the pandemic began in March 2020. Many of the dorm residents on campus have been uttering complaints about its closure. They were disappointed at the fact that there is a gym filled with bodybuilding equipment of which they are unable to access. In a time such as this where our health status determines whether we survive this virus or not, the Fitness Centre is a facility we could consider essential to the student’ needs.

To ensure that the COVID-19 policies are kept, administrators could allow a maximum of 5 persons to be in the gym at a time. Additionally, the opening hours of the gym can be extended to allow for flexibility and convenience to all the students who would want to access the facility. These are just some suggestions that can be considered. In my opinion, the reopening of our Fitness Centre will play an integral role in our fight against COVID-19.
