Let Your Talents Shine

Maria Popova, Brainpickings said, “Creativity is a combinatorial force: it’s our ability to tap into our ‘inner’ pool of resources – knowledge, insight, information, inspiration and all the fragments populating our minds – that we’ve accumulated over the years just by being present and alive and awake to the world and to combine them in extraordinary new ways.”

The presence of creativity isn’t absent from Northern Caribbean University. Infact, there exist a wealth of talented young people who are enrolled to this institution, and each contribute to the lingering spirit of inventiveness that dwells in and around the university.

Many of the creative ideas developed by these students are birthed out of a drive for entrepreneurship.

This week, we are featuring a student who has utilised her creative skill to thrust herself into the world of business. Iesha Joseph hails from the southeast coast of Jamaica in the Bull Bay, St. Andrew. She is a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis in English Language and Literacy.

Iesha is an individual who is characterised by her industriousness and her regular display of kindness and concern for others.

This young woman is a fashion designer and currently operates a small business enterprise called Sunstylez Designed. Her business focuses on the production of clothing and clotjing various accessories. Iesha started Sunstylez Designed in the year 2017 after having to take a break in her academic pursuit due to financial constraints. However, despite a few challenges this young woman’s business continues to experience constant success as she has amassed a long list of clients who have found favour in her work

Like many other young entrepreneurs, this future educator has to juggle her business endeavours and her academic pursuits. However, she says that she juggles the two by staying committed to a weekly schedule.

There is no doubt that Iesha can achieve much if she maintains this progressive speed. As she her business continues to progress, Iesha says that her end goal is to become a fashion stalwart. One who advocates for modesty through quality of the items she produces.

To any other individual hoping to utilise their talents in a manner similar to Iesha, her advice to you is, “have a plan, start the journey with what you have, celebrate the small accomplishments, stay passionate and stay disciplined.”

Keep your open for Iesha, she’s destined for greatness.
