Hyacinth Chen School of Nursing Set to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Mandeville, Jamaica- The Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Hyacinth Chen School of Nursing will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
This was announced by Associate Professor and Director of the Nursing Department, Juliet Poyser, during the university’s recent annual capping ceremony, which saw 123 nurses being affirmed.
According to Poyser, the month of November will be recognized as the department’s semi-centennial which will be followed by an array of celebratory events throughout the rest of the year.
“It is wonderful to be able to participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the nursing program. The celebration will be a virtual event.”
Meanwhile, NCU President, Dr Lincoln Edwards congratulated the nurses for their milestone achieved, noting that the event was the first Capping Ceremony in the second century of the Northern Caribbean University.
“You are special because you are the first class to be capped in the second century of NCU in Manchester. This is a historic moment and you are a part of that history. You are special because you are the first class to be capped in a virtual ceremony in the history of NCU,” he shared.
The annual event was instituted to affirm nurses with a cap who have matriculated to the next phase of completing their program which will take them at respective hospitals on the island.
The Director also shared that the Department is in need of a few supplies such as computers and simulation equipment.
The ceremony was held under the theme, “Overcoming obstacles through faith, pressing towards a higher calling.”
