GC Foster trumps NCU

Spectators turned out in their numbers to watch two basketball powerhouses faceoff for the first time in two years in an highly anticipated match.

Defending champions of the Intercollegiate Division two (D2) men’s Basketball team, Northern Caribbean University (NCU) faces-off with the defending champions of the Division One (D1) men’s Basketball champions G.C. Foster College in a scintillating match in Spanish Town. The D1 champions stamped their class as they welcomed the Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) team to the division with a 33 point victory, ending the game with a final score of 89 – 56.

NCU’s reigning MVP Jevon Thomas had an outstanding performance as he finished the game with 27 points, 6 rebounds and a few steals. However, despite his efforts, the team was unable to keep the game close due to the seasoned performance of the G.C. Foster team.

Star guard Jermain “Steph Curry” Brown made it rain from downtown as he made a series of three-point shots, tallying up a score of 33 points with 5 assists and 3 steals. The captain, Nickcaro Golding also played a key role in the team’s victory, accumulating 18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Despite the huge upset, NCU’s Head Coach Japhette Russell praised the team for their effort. He pointed out that despite the mistakes his team made on offense, he believed that the defence was very good against one of the best basketball teams in the country. However, as always there is work to be done. He looks forward to a good season and a hopeful rematch in the playoffs.

NCU is scheduled to play a home match against Monegue Teachers College (MONEC) on Tuesday, October 23.
