“EMBRACING THE NEW VISION”

It was fifteen (15) who stood resolute in their pledge to service through collaborative enterprise at the 2018 -2019 swearing-in of the new United Student Movement (USM) regime on Thursday, September 20, at Northern Caribbean University’s gymnatorium.
Every individual of the 15 member executive swore an oath to ”embrace the new vision”, outlined by the newly elected USM President, Oneyka Nevins.
In his inaugural speech, Nevins encouraged a strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and a respect for financial obligations. He also implored them to be solution driven, reminding them of all the impact they can inspire beyond NCU’s walls. The president highlighted plans for academic aid, which will take form in Math and English tutoring sessions, and most notably a scholarship for a student who has lost a parent – the last of which was inspired by the loss of his own father a few months prior.
To the administrators, he offered this reminder – a motivated populace proves more productive. In the same breath, he urged administrators to ensure a swift delivery of grades, and he also encouraged them to research and implement policies that will inspire change.
To the newly installed USM executive, his message was succinct.
“You are the standard of students hold bearings. They look to us as an example of what they should, and should not do.”
He warned that the powers gifted have not made them morally exempt, and urged an even more deliberate observation of the University’s ethics and administrative framework.
“The Vanguard of Student experience … NCU’s transformer in Chief” President of Northern Caribbean University made clear his support of the new regime and promised collaborations, which he said are vital to the school’s moving forward.
Nevins takes the reigns from Cynthia Garbutt, the USM’s fourth female president to date.
