Former United Student Movement (USM) presidential candidate Romario Bonnick (formerly known as Romario Bartley) says that he stands in full support of the current USM regime and believes that the movement has been an effective one thus far.
Presidential candidate of the USM 2018-2019 electoral period Romario Bonnick, said that he fully endorses the current USM regime despite some negative feedback from the student body. He said, “Like, every USM regime in office there is going to be mix reactions from the school body, but I honestly think they are doing a wonderful job.”
Bonnick added that leadership is not always easy and claims the current council has been displaying the willingness to effectively lead every student on campus.
Even more, the former candidate mentioned that he believes the council members are making conscious efforts to execute the plans and projections stated in their individual manifestos. “The VP of Academics Leera, has been doing a wonderful job so far with the overall plans from the manifesto. Also, the V.P of Students Services and Social Affairs has been conducting a lot of town hall meetings to hear the voice of the students – something he spoke heavily about at his presentation…finally, there is an increase in the USM budget something that I find commendable and I must commend the V.P of finance and planning and the President for that.” he said.
Additionally, Bonnick commented on claims that the current movement has been ineffective thus far. He said, “the voice of the students really says a lot, they are there to serve the students. As such if the students are saying they are silent I think they should put strategic plans in place to rectify the issue. e.g. mingle more with the students.”
In underscoring his support of the movement, Bonnick says that the regime must – in the best interest of the students, resolve quickly any internal challenges it might be facing. Adding, “Any and every organization will face challenges even at the highest level of government, but I believe what will show the true strength of the movement is how quickly they resolve the issue at hand as I said earlier for the best of for the student body.”
Aside from his endorsement of the USM, Bonnick said that he has intentions to contest for an office in the next USM regime 2020-2021 but was tight-lipped on the office he plans to vie for. He said, “At the very moment I don’t want to really disclose the office that I’m going to run for. However, I know for a surety that I’m running for an office in the USM. I believe that I can make a big impact but not alone. USM means a collective body of students working together to accomplish one goal which is to better the lives of students. As my tag line for president last debate I can remember it like it was yesterday ‘Unite for Change’… as long as there is unity among the student body and the movement all things are possible”.
Romario Bonnick currently serves as the V.P of Academics and Administration for the Ministerial Association of the School of Religion and Theology.
