Mandeville, Jamaica- The United Student Movement’s (USM) Sports Director, Matthew Berry is urging students to apply to be apart of the Sports Committee for the 2020-2021 academic year- noting that the deadline has been extended to Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

Berry told the Hilltop Trumpet in a recent interview that members will receive a stipend that goes towards meal plan allocations.

“If you [students] sign up for the sports committee, it won’t give you the coronavirus that’s for sure, it will give you some experience on how to lead and be a team player… our committee members normally get a stipend and that stipend would go toward the meal plan.”

The third-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering also shared that being physically fit is not a requirement for students to apply.

“You don’t have to be physically fit. There are persons who join the sports committee but do not play sports, but they have some liking or interest for sporting activities, it is just that you have to have leadership qualities, team spirit and all that.”

Students are being encouraged to access the application form in the university’s E-bulletin and then submit to  mberry@stu.ncu.edu.jm  and ketra@stu.ncu.edu.jm.
